This guide shows you how to add a chatbot to WordPress with Talkwyn, from a fresh install to a live chatbot that answers questions and collects leads. You need a WordPress site and an administrator account. Most people are live in about five minutes.

Before you start: how to add a chatbot to WordPress the easy way

  • An administrator login for your WordPress site.
  • Published pages that answer your common questions, such as prices, hours, services, and delivery. Talkwyn answers only from your own content.
  • A few minutes to create a free AI key. You can do it during step 3.

You do not need to write code or upload documents. If you sell with WooCommerce or build pages with Elementor, Talkwyn reads those too.

1. Install the plugin

  1. Download the free ZIP from the Talkwyn download page.
  2. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins, click Add New, then Upload Plugin, and choose the ZIP.
  3. Click Install Now, then Activate. The setup wizard opens by itself.

2. Connect an AI key

  1. Create a key with Groq, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, or Cloudflare Workers AI.
  2. In the setup wizard, pick the provider, paste the key and click Test. Later you can change it under Talkwyn’s AI provider settings.
  3. Add a second provider if you can, and put your favorite first.
  4. Save.

Several providers offer free tiers. Their limits are set by each provider and change over time. With two providers, Talkwyn switches automatically when one hits its limit. See choosing an AI provider for where to get each key. For a longer walk-through with tips on preparing your pages, see how to add a free AI chatbot to WordPress. Building with Elementor? See the Elementor chatbot page.

Tip: paste keys only into Talkwyn’s settings. Never put a key in a page, a post, or a public file.

3. Scan your site

  1. In the wizard, after your key, click Scan my site. Later you can scan again under Talkwyn, Knowledge.
  2. Wait for the scan to finish. Larger sites take a little longer.

Talkwyn reads your published pages, posts, menus, custom fields, Elementor content, and WooCommerce products (price, stock status, and attributes). It never reads drafts, users, or passwords. After the first scan, it keeps the index up to date when you edit content.

4. Customize the chat window

  1. Pick a color that matches your site.
  2. Choose an avatar.
  3. Write a welcome message that says what visitors can ask, for example “Ask me about prices, opening hours, or delivery.”
  4. Choose where the chatbot appears. Hide it on checkout, thank-you, or any page where it would distract.

5. Go live and test

  1. Turn the chatbot on and save.
  2. Open your site in a private browser window.
  3. Ask a question you know the answer to, like your opening hours.
  4. Check that the answer is right and that a source link appears under it.
  5. Ask a follow-up, like “and how much is that?”
  6. Ask something your site does not cover. Talkwyn should say it does not know and offer to have your team follow up.
  7. Ask a question in another language your customers use.

If an answer is wrong or missing, update the page that should answer it. Talkwyn picks up the change.

6. Check lead capture

When a visitor shows buying intent, such as “can I book?” or “call me”, Talkwyn asks if they want a follow-up, then shows a short form inside the chat. Leads are saved in WordPress and emailed to you instantly.

  1. Make sure lead capture is on in Talkwyn’s settings.
  2. Check the email address where leads are sent.
  3. Send a test lead from your site and confirm the email arrives.
  4. Export leads as CSV any time from the Talkwyn leads screen.

7. Start a Pro trial (optional)

The free plan is free forever. To try paid AI models, smart search (meaning-based search), analytics, Slack and Telegram alerts and the other Pro features, start a free Pro trial. You get every Pro feature for 15 days on one site. No credit card needed. When it ends, upgrade with the same key or keep the free plan.

8. Activate a license key

  1. Copy your license key from your account’s licenses page.
  2. In WordPress, go to Talkwyn, then Settings, then License.
  3. Paste the key and click Activate.
Staging and local sites do not count toward your site limit, so you can test changes safely.

Troubleshooting

The chatbot does not answer

  • Check that the chatbot is turned on and not hidden on the page you are testing.
  • Check that at least one AI provider has a saved key. Create a new key if you are not sure it is valid.
  • Add a second provider in case the first has reached its free limit.

An answer is wrong or out of date

  • Find the page that should hold the answer and make sure it is published, not a draft.
  • Update the text on that page. Talkwyn refreshes its index when you edit.
  • Remove old or conflicting copies of the same information from other pages.

Lead emails are not arriving

  • Check the lead email address in Talkwyn’s settings.
  • Look in your spam folder, and mark the message as safe.
  • Leads are also saved in WordPress, so nothing is lost while you fix email delivery.

Frequently asked questions

How do I try this on my own site?

Install the free plan, or start a 15-day Pro trial, and test it with the questions your customers really ask. Install Talkwyn.

How long does setup take?

About five minutes. Install Talkwyn, paste a free AI key, click Scan my site, pick your color, avatar and welcome message, and turn it on. The setup guide walks through each step.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan is free forever, not a time-limited demo. It includes the site scan, multilingual answers, lead capture, chat history and the free AI providers. See every plan.

How does the free trial work?

You get every Pro feature for 15 days on one site. No credit card needed. When the trial ends, upgrade with the same key or keep the free plan. Start the trial.

What happens when the answer is not on my site?

Talkwyn says it could not find that and offers to have your team follow up. It answers business questions only from your own content, so it never invents a price or a policy.

Where are chats and leads stored?

In your own website database. Messages go only to the AI provider you picked, and you can turn chat logs off or have them deleted after a number of days you choose. Read our privacy approach.

Do I need to pay for AI?

Not to get started. Groq, Google Gemini, OpenRouter and Cloudflare Workers AI offer free tiers. Add more than one and Talkwyn switches automatically when one hits its limit. Pro adds OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Mistral and DeepSeek. Choose an AI provider.

Will it slow down my site?

The chat script is small, loads after your page, and talks to your server only when someone sends a message.

Does it work outside WordPress?

Talkwyn is live today as a WordPress plugin that works with WooCommerce. A Shopify app and a one-line embed for any website are in development, and Wix, Webflow, Squarespace, HubSpot and Zapier are planned. See every integration.

Does it show where each answer came from?

Yes. Source links appear under every answer, so visitors can open the page the answer came from and read more.
